Mrs. Douglas’ Pilgrimage to Rome
This week, our headteacher, Mrs. Douglas, returned home from a very special pilgrimage to Vatican City. Her journey was filled with unforgettable experiences and deep reflection as she represented our school and parish community on this incredible visit.
During her time in Rome, Mrs. Douglas visited many of the city’s beautiful basilicas and was honoured to meet Archbishop Paul Gallagher in the Apostolic Palace – the very place where Pope Leo has his apartments. They spoke about the work of the Vatican’s Secretary of State, as well as the challenges and hopes within our own school and parish community.
One of the most memorable moments of the pilgrimage was attending the Papal Audience in St Peter’s Square, where Mrs. Douglas joined thousands of pilgrims to hear the Holy Father speak. She was fortunate enough to seek his blessing for our school and parish, a truly special and humbling experience that she will never forget.
Mrs. Douglas also visited the tomb of St. Paul, where she lit a candle for everyone at St. Joseph’s, asking for blessings for our children, families, and parish. She shared that she returns home not only with memories of a remarkable journey, but with Pope Leo’s blessings for us all.
A particularly moving moment of the pilgrimage was her visit to the tomb of Pope Francis in the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore – a simple and humble resting place, a powerful contrast to the splendour of Vatican City.
We are so proud that Mrs. Douglas had the chance to share the story of our community in such an inspiring setting and to bring back these special blessings for us all.
