‘Addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart.’ Ephesians 5:19

At St Joseph's, we know that music is a tool to; help our children to learn; to remember; to communicate; to understand faith and culture; to relax and to share thoughts and feelings. We embrace music and all the opportunities it offers to us both as teachers and as learners.

The aim of our music curriculum is for our children to develop a love of music and inspire them to develop their talent as musicians through performing, listening, reviewing and evaluating music across a range of genres.

We want them to learn to sing and use their voices to create and compose music and have the opportunity to learn to play a musical instrument and progress to perform on their own and ensemble.

We want them to leave St Joseph’s able to understand music vocabulary and how music is created, produced and communicated through the interrelated dimensions of music: pitch, duration, dynamics, tempo, timbre, texture, structure and appropriate musical notations, ready for the next stage of their educational journey.

Our children have lots of amazing opportunities for choral singing, performance and learning to play instruments. We work with Rock Choir, Bang Drum and the Big Sing as well as our in-house specialists!
