Oracy
"Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person." Colossians 4:6
As adults, we know all too well how difficult it is to stand and speak in front of others and to project your voice with intonation, emotion and emphasis. We want every child to leave our school with the confidence to share their opinions, look others in the eye and speak with conviction, be able to read aloud with fluency and expression to maintain the interest of the listener.
We give our children opportunities in every lesson to develop and explore their oracy skills through reading, role play, discussion, partner work and opportunities to lead. As a school, we attend Mass in church regularly where children read to parishioners, there are opportunities to perform in our Poetry Challenge, Christmas and Easter productions, class assemblies, weekly whole-school and Key Stage assemblies. Children also have opportunities to lead in various aspects as they progress through school i.e. as prefects, subject ambassadors, pupil councillors, eco councillors and well-being ambassadors. Through our Throne of Words, children learn to interview visitors - listening to the speaker and following up with secondary and tertiary questions to learn the art of conversation.
