We are really proud of our Sacramental Programme at St Joseph's Parish, Chorley. Working closely with our wonderful priest Canon Peter Stanley, our families and our Parishioners, we offer a beautiful celebration of the Sacramental journey for the children in Year 4.
Our Sacramental preparation begins in January. Following a meeting with our parents and families, children stay behind for a series of after-school clubs led by our school staff - we do this so that we can be joined from our children within the Parish, who may wish to make their Sacramental journey alongside us. Father Peter buys each child a very special 'I Belong' book to enhance their learning. In February, the children take part in the Sacrament of Reconciliation; this is an evening service in our candlelit church. In May, the children wear their Holy Communion outfits for the first time as we celebrate the Blessed Virgin with the Crowning of Our Lady Mass in church. The children carry fresh flowers and lead the entire service on the Sunday morning. In June, our children again take the lead as they make their First Holy Communion in church - filled with our families, parishioners and children, it's a community celebration followed by a special breakfast in school where Father Peter blesses any Holy gifts they may have received. The following day is our Blessed Sacrament Mass and procession in church - so the children get three 'wears' out of those special outfits!
As a community, we come together for Mass often. We also invite all out children and families to join us for the early Mass on a Wednesday morning (at 8.30am) if they choose to. We want this opportunity to experience the stillness, reflection and prayer to come from intrinsic motivation so the offer is always there, everyone is welcome. We have regular whole-school Masses, led by the children, families are always invited. Father Peter also comes into school for Class Masses, which the children love as he brings his 'travelling Mass kit' and talks the children through each element!
Our aim is always to bring our children and our families closer to God.
