Reading
"Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path." Psalm 119:105
At St Joseph's we believe every child should be given the gift of reading so that they have the opportunity to become an enthusiastic and independent reader. We want all of our children to have an interest in, and a love of, books. We want them to be attentive listeners and have a lifelong love of reading.
We provide many opportunities for our children to access high quality up to date fiction and non-fiction books, plays, poetry anthologies, newspapers and magazines. We are excited to have been successful in our bid for funding from the Foyle Foundation in July 2022 to update our school libraries with £6000 of new books!
We use Accelerated Reader and Bug Club to boost our reading even further. We work closely with the School Library Service and Chorley Library. Throughout the year, we have visits from a range of award-winning authors to inspire the children even more. This year, we were fortunate to be joined by Emma Carroll and Vashti Hardy, who spoke to the children and even signed books for us!
We are good role models for reading and make sure that our children listen to stories, for pleasure, every day!
