Birkacre go Roman!!!

Birkacre go Roman!!!

On the Friday before half term Birkacre visited the Roman Museum in Ribchester.

We had a very interesting day, we got to dress up as Roman soldiers, hold artefacts and see a real Roman Granary.

The curator was called Patrick. We told Patrick what we had learned and he told us some things he knew. He also showed us what Ribchester looked like 2000 years ago. Ruins are still there today but most are covered as new buildings have gone on top. You can still go and see were a granary was built. The people knew it was a granary because they found wheat in the ruins. Patrick showed us some artefacts of jugs and Roman armour. We were allowed to try on some Roman armour. It was heavier than we thought! Patrick let us try on two different helmets, armour and let us carry a shield with a sword.

The class would definitely come back

Birkacre had a great day!
