How can we describe a brick? ‘It is a cuboid’ WOW!

This week we have been continuing to explore the story of The Three Little Pigs by creating story maps, sequencing images from the story and re-telling the story using our talk 4 write actions. We have also been investigating and describing the materials they used to build their houses, everyone agreed that the brick was the best material because it was ‘hard’, ‘strong’, ‘heavy’ and a ‘cuboid’. This leads us on nicely to the 3D shapes we have been learning about in maths. I have been blown away by how quickly some children have picked up and used the correct terminology such as faces, vertices and edges, when talking about shapes. We have looked at cubes, cuboids, spheres, square based pyramids and cones, as well as refreshing our minds on our 2d shapes!

Astley 15

I wonder if any of you will spot some shapes over the weekend. If you do I’d love to see them, maybe take a photo or draw a picture and bring it into school.

See you all on Monday.
