Victorian Christmas at Astley Hall
Victorian Christmas at Astley Hall
Rivington class enjoyed a school trip straight out of history this Wednesday when they walked down to Astley Hall. The trip, which was meant to give the children an idea of what a true Victorian Christmas would consist of, was very enjoyable and thoroughly traditional. The children made Victorian style Christmas Cards complete with envelope and the ‘Penny post’ postage stamp; learned about a Victorian Christmas meal and how it would have been prepared; discovered the origins of the humble Christmas tree and the gifts/decoration hung on them and also gathered around the piano to sing traditional Christmas Carols and play parlour games. The trip was a great success and filled us all with the Christmas spirit.
