Life in a Victorian Classroom

This week we have looked further into whether or not we would like to have been a child growing up during the Victorian times. We have had a go at being chimney sweeps (Mr. Roden was the cruel master bossing the children around!)

In literacy, we have studied the classic Dickensian novel, Oliver Twist, thinking about how the protagonist (Oliver) must be feeling and thinking. We then contrasted this, looking at the scene from Mr.Bumble’s point of view. We have collected ever such a lot of amazing and new vocabulary to describe the Victorian workhouse in which Oliver lived. All this has helped us to plan, what we hope will be an amazing adaptation of Oliver Twist in the coming weeks.

In DT we have commenced our pop up/mechanisms work by researching some pop up books and examining the moving parts within them. We can wait to start making our own version once we have created a design brief for our own books!
