As some of you may be aware from our Twitter feed (@Yarrow_Class), last week, we had the most memorable day in London! It started off with a very early get up to make sure that we were at school for 5am! Once we were all here, we got on the coach to Preston before boarding the train down to London. At this point we were very tired but plenty of sweets and drinks soon gave us the energy we needed!
We arrived in London around 9am and immediately sped off across the city to make it Westminster on time. After an impromptu parade from the Queen’s guard, we made it just in time. Once we made it inside Westminster, we were met by our local MP (Lindsay Hoyle) who took us into the House of Commons – where David Cameron makes our laws – and into the House of Lords. The room was spectacular! After that, we went up to Lindsay’s offices where we had a question and answer session. He explained why he wanted to be an MP and what makes a good MP. Then we gave him a grilling about education and the SATs tests we’d just undertaken.
Next came the really special moment, we discovered that we’d won the film competition! Lindsay congratulated us and said that he couldn’t wait to see it when we hold our premiere!
Then we boarded the (very busy) London Underground and raced over to Piccadilly. We were attending a special screening of all of the winning films in the IntoFilm space competition. When we arrived, a film crew recorded our entrance and we got some much needed popcorn! Before all the films were played, we got a special message from Tim Peake in space, who thanked us for the films and said how fantastic they were. Next came the really special bit, Tim Peake said our school’s name in outer space! Then, we watched our film on a huge cinema screen, which was a brilliant moment!
After the screening had finished, we explored London and did lots of sightseeing. We looked at Big Ben, the London Eye and Buckingham Palace (we even caught a glimpse of Princess Anne in her car). Once our feet couldn’t take any more walking, we returned to Euston ready to board our train home (obviously having a Burger King before we boarded!).
It was an extremely long day but was absolutely brilliant!
